Rumors

CW: If Draft Were Held Today

Miami It's no rumor. They signed him 4/22 (per Jay Glazer of FSN). Jake Long  OT
St. Louis (nfl.com) Leaning more and more toward Long. (ESPN): Could extort a pick from Atlanta  - one notch below - (who has Dorsey at the top of their board). Assuming this means the Rams preferred C Long all along, it all becomes a matter of who blinks first. (nfl.com): Jets and Saints said to be trying to trade up to here. Dorsey's the more highly-rated athlete, but the Rams have bolo's at least 3 times in recent drafts when they drafted a DT, and they only registered 5.5 sacks from the outside last season. That said - they still could draft Dorsey and move Carricker outside to LDE where he could provide good edge pressure. Chris Long DE
Atlanta (nfl.com): Buzz is that, ,if Dorsey's available, they'll grab him. If he isn't, they'll select Matt Ryan. Ryan's name is coming up more and more. (NFL.com) Has confirmed they've had offers for the pick.Jeff Otah in for a visit. (ESPN) - Front office is split on QB vs. lineman. If OT Jake Long and Dorsey are gone the Falcons re likely to select Matt Ryan. Glenn Dorsey DT
Oakland (nfl.com): Buzz says it's between McFadden and C Long. Or, as Kiffin hinted, they might trade down. (ESPN) It's said to be between McFadden, Chris Long and Gholston at Raider Hq. Vernon Gholston DE/LB
Kansas City (nfl.com): Either C Long or an O-lineman (Albert or Claby?). Remember that they also have a #17.  4/23 - We're hearing they might reach for Albert. Traded DE Jarrod Allen to Vikes for picks (including Miinnesota's #17). Will have to replace Allen but have several holes to fill. Biggest issue - Are they so wedded to the notion that Brady Croyle not turn out to be a bust? Or, if they don't feel Croyle is the answer, are they willing to cut their losses and draft another QB. Branden Albert G
Jets 4/23 - Local media buzz is "all McFadden/all the time." Although Ryan is not one of the prospects visiting the Jets, He divulged to SIRIUS radio that they've quietly spent a few days with him. (Lots of posturing (i.e. lunches with prospects in public but not with Ryan). Gholston also part of NYC draft buzz. Matt Ryan QB
New England fr SF (nfl.com): They're saying Gholston, S Ellis or Rivers -  or they could trade down. 16 of 17 players who visited NE were said to be on defensive side of ball. (ESPN) - RB Darren McFadden scheduled for a visit. They need to replace Assante Samuels. Darren McFadden RB
Baltimore (nfl.com): If Ryan falls to here, they'll take him. If not, they could take a corner or trade out of the spot. Interested in a QB in aftermath of McNair's retirement. Said to be looking at Matt Ryan. Also DT Sedric Ellis (but could be looking to extort a pick from Cincy -said to covet Ellis and is slotted one pick later. Sedric Ellis DT
Cincinnati (nfl.com): S Ellis the CW pick, but Rivers and Mendenhall could also be possibilities. (ESPN) May not feel the urgency to draft Rivers now that Odell Thurman is expected back. Said to covet Ellis, and then Mendenhall should Ellis be off their board. They need help at a lot of positions. Rashard Mendenhall RB
New Orleans NFL Net & ESPN) - Speculation is that trading all the way to #2 (to grab Dorsey) would be difficult, but with the Rams all but out of the trade up picture, they might try to climb the ladder in order to secure S Ellis by dealing with the Pats (#7) or Ravens (#8). (NFL.com) Confirms report they've tried to trade up into Top 10. Otherwise, McKelvin or Rivers are the most talked about. Leodis McKelvin B
Buffalo (NFL.com)  Devon Thomas said to be on Bills' radar screen. Too high here for Thomas. Rivers represents a gut mock pit. Keith Rivers OLB
Denver Focusing on running attack (either RB or O-line) Ryan Clady OT
Carolina 4/23 - Derrick Harvey's name surfaced locally (probably because Rucker retired). Panthers interested in Matt Ryan and might try to trade up (with NE?) should he be available. Also said to be interested in OT's. Derrick Harvey DE
Chicago 4/23 - Chicago Trib is speculating O-lineman like Ryan Clady or Chris Williams. (NFL.com) Low level buzz that they may be interested in Matt Ryan. (ESPN) Lovey Smith had lunch with McFadden. Chris Wiliams T
Detroit (NFL.com) Repeated webb buzz that Matt Millen might be dangling WR Roy Williams as trade bait in an attempt to trade up to draft Ryan. Jonathan Stewart  RB
Cardinals Buzz out of the front office and Punditville (i.e. Urban, Calvisi and Pasch) suggests they'll either draft a CB or a WR, with "system-fit" playing a key role as "tie breaker" if two athletes otherwise are rated equal.  (For the first time in 5 years, the Cards are bringing in prospects for visits, including RB's Jonathan Stewart and Chris Johnson. We rate R-Cromartie #1 on our CB board, but could almost be as happy with Mike Jenkins should R-Cromartie be off the board. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie CB
Kansas City from Minnesota They need to replace J Allen's pass rush presence Phillip Merling DE/OLB
Houston   Mike Jenkins CB
Philadelphia The perennial WR rumor is back (Limas Sweed the name you hear bandied about). A few mocks have them taking Otah. Need edge rushing help. Calais Campbell DE
Tampa Bay Caldwell in for a visit. He's got the speed and quicks to go with nice size. Andre Caldwell WR
Washington (ESPN): Zeroing in on either Merling or Kelly.  (Cards rejected their offer for Anquan Boldin). This doesn't mean they'd necessarily draft a WR. In fact, their efforts to secure a trade (from various teams) may suggest the opposite; namely, that they're not enamored with the guys in this year's draft. M Kelly WR
Dallas (fr Cleve) Did the deal for Pac Man. (ESPN) According to Jerry Jones, don't expect the Cowboys to trade up. Felix Jones RB
Pittsburgh 4/23 - Said "not to rule out" a RB - They'd like a thumper to take the load off lighter and quicker Willie Parker.. .Mike Jenkins and J Simpson among Steeler visitors. Some media  mocks project them to take Cherlius - presumably because of the loss of Faneca. Otah a possibility. Jeff Otah OT
Tennessee   DeSean Jackson WR
Seattle   Fred Davis TE
Jacksonville   Kenny Phillips S
San Diego 4/23 -Could trade down. Gosder Cherlius OT
Dallas   Antoine Cason CB
San Francisco (fr Indy)   Dan Connor LB
Green Bay 4/23 - According to The Green Bay Press-Gazette: "it's all but certain that Packers general manager Ted Thompson will select a quarterback in this weekend's draft." (NFL.com) - Logic says they may want to draft an OT to replace Chad Clifton. Should they draft a QB here, they could go in 2 different directions - (1) solidify the system by drafting a Rodgers-like QB like Brian Brohm or (2) replace the Favre "rocket ball" component by drafting Flacco. We think Flacco. Joe Flacco QB
New England (forfeit)   (Forfeit)
Giants Eddie Royal among 6 visitors to Giants facilities. (ESPN) Strahan rumored to mull retirement. If so, it might elevate the need for a big DE. They need a safety Curtis Lofton ILB
Cleveland Not expected to try and trade up into Round One
Indianapolis WR's Manningham and Doucet in for looksee
