2015 Draft
265. Gerald Christian, TE, Louisville

If you accept the commentary on various Cardinal chat rooms - Of the seven players we drafted, Christian best fits the prototypical example of a well-rounded, reasonably highly rated "safe" pick for the position.

6-3 244 Forty: 4.78

Here's what four draft guides have to say:

Pro Football Now (Arkush): (Ranks him #10 among all TE's). Versatile (can play both Move and Y)...Fairly good blocker...can break down and get in and out of cuts...goodhands...competes in traffic...strong RAC skills...But lacks great size for the position and may be maxed out growth wise...could be a bit more explosive in the hips...Better player than individual traits would suggest...lacks size and explosion but "is a football player."...best blocking is when he's on the move...Later pick with some upside.

Lindy's: Blocking TE for 2 years with the Gators. Transferred to Louisville to get more chances as a receiver...In 2014, he netted 32grabs for 384yards and 5 TD's..hybrid receiving option...tougher than he looks...blocking techniques and route-running fundamentals need work...Athletic with room to add bulk (contradicts Arkush)...Physical at POA and likes to pop as a blocker...fluid and flexible athletically...good hand use...catches away from his body...lacks elite strength and blocking techniques..."drops are problematic...Averaage production..."

Beckett's Draft Guide - Not listed.

Pro Football Draft Guide - "Florida transfer...natural athlete and very fluid mover...quick feet and explosiveness should give opposing safeties fits one on one...soft hands...catches away from body...will high-point the ball...Very competitive blocker but raw route runner...Inconsistent in college and will need to be coached-up. Projects as a solid #2 H-Back type..."

Bottom Line: It's not as if the Cards are deliberately ignoring the TE position; more that the guys we've brought in have underproduced or fallen prey to injuries. We lost Housler to free agency. To pick up a highly awarded kid to fill a position need at #265 could well be a potential steal.
