2015 Draft
86. David Johnson RB No. Iowa

When I saw the pick, I thought we (as some predicted) had drafted Duke Johnson. (Sorry, the Dukester played at the "U". This Johnson played at Northern Iowa). With their third pick, the Cards opted to select a big, steady old plow horse with excellent hands and acceptable speed, but mostly straight-ahead attributes and not a lot of shake & bake.

6-0 224. Forty Time: 4.57

Here's what some of the draft guides have to say about him:

Pro Football Now (Arkush): (Rates him 21st best RB). "Flashed at Senior Bowl..Size, speed back who excelled vs. lower competition...has some traits but is not a complete back...Lists forty time as 4.50.

Lindy's: Rates him #10th among RB's. "Some feel he'd be better suited as an H-Back than as a RB...Strong, decisive, stout runner...looks more like a LB than a RB...Has only one gear but plenty of giddyup...is fast enough but lacks breakaway speed...runs a bit stiff and upright with not a whole bunch of shake..."

Beckett's Draft Guide - Not listed.

Pro Football Draft Guide - (Ranks as #11 RB).... "A big back with versatile skill set...best atttribute is his soft hands...churns legs, grinds out yards and falls forward...Lacks suddenness or creativity...size and receiving skills more than make up for lack of dynamism as a runner..."

Bottom Line: I devoutly hope that this is one of Steve Keim's "small college draft specials."
