2015 Draft
Quarterback
This page will be a work in progress and updated frequently. Come back often and watch it develop.

1 Marcus Mariota QB 1 Oregon 4.52 6030 222 1st

I've been following him since Day One of his college career. Not as hefty as Winston and less of a pocket passer/more of a mobile. "throw on the run" QB with terrific decision-making and leadership skills. No character concerns. Praised for his low-keyed leadership. You can't teach 4.52 speed. Zone-read guy who will have to be brought up to speed taking the ball from under center.

Pro Football Draft Guide) PFDG - A coach will have to get creative to take advantage of his strenghts ("Think Russell Wilson").

Brandt (Pro Day) - "...concentrated on his positional workout and stood on his combine numbers -- he posted the best times among quarterbacks in the 40-yard dash and the three-cone drill, and was a top performer among quarterbacks in the vertical jump, broad jump and 20-yard short shuttle. I thought Mariota had a good workout, and it's safe to say he enhanced his draft position Thursday. He made a believer of people because he worked under center (Mariota operated exclusively out of the shotgun formation in Oregon's high-tempo spread offense). Cleveland Browns quarterbacks coach Kevin O'Connell scripted Mariota's pro-day workout."

Combine - Hand: 9 7/8; VJ: 36; BJ: 10-1; 3C: 6.87; 20S: 4.11;

2 Jameis Winston QB 3 Florida State 4.97 6030 231 1st

Prototype physical skill-set (size, arm-strength and athleticisim. Without the off-field issues, he'd rank as Rang's top overall prospect. Rang likes his poise, confidence and ability to finish games.

PFDG - Ability to operate out of the pocket sets him apart...If it weren't for character concerns, he'd be ranked #1.

Brandt (Pro Day) - "...stood on his numbers from the combine. Winston went through a 102-throw scripted workout, throwing the ball with good accuracy....Jameis Winston's pro-day workout Tuesday might not have added any question marks for NFL coaches and scouts about the potential No. 1 overall pick, but it didn't appear to answer any, either. Winston's private quarterback coach, George Whitfield, said before the workout that the 102-throw script would include its share of throws to show Winston's improvement in maintaining his balance while throwing on the run and with a simulated pass rush forcing him to adjust..That part of the workout didn't go well. "The frustrating thing watching it is, as a quarterback, you want to see him get into a rhythm," NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah said during NFL Network's broadcast of FSU's pro day. "To me it looks like there's so much movement stuff they're trying to sell and show that Jameis hasn't been able to get comfortable and get in that rhythm."Added analyst Kurt Warner: "Every time he's been on the move, he's been off a little bit. ... We've seen some throws (behind) receivers."

Winston's status as the draft's top quarterback, and the presumptive target of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the top pick, wasn't at risk in a pro-day setting. Still, NFL Media analysts saw some of the same struggles from Winston on Tuesday that were apparent in his game film. Analyst Brian Baldinger questioned the structure of the workout itself. "I am surprised that George Whitfield OK'd this here today," he said. "I think it's unnecessary, what he's doing. This looks like the workout any quarterback would do at their first minicamp," Baldinger said. "I don't think this is putting him in the best light."

While Winston struggled early in the workout when asked to throw the ball more on the move, he threw effectively on deep passes from the pocket, and finished with a series of red-zone throws that were praised across the board. "I thought his red zone was really, really good. I saw the bounce back in Jameis Winston's stride at that time," analyst Charles Davis said.

Combine- Hand: 9-3/8; 10 yd: 1.74; VJ:28-5; BJ: 8-7; 3C: 7.16; 20S: 4.36;

5 Brett Hundley QB x UCLA 4.63 6030 226 x

Reminds Rang of Randall Cunningham - has elite size, athleticism and arm-strength. One thing that separates him from Mariota and Winston can be found in the so-called "intangibles" (i.e. decision-making, presnap reads, handling himself under pressure). Needs to work on accuracy.

Brandt (Pro Day) - "... The star of the workout was, naturally, quarterback Brett Hundley , who went through an up-tempo throwing session that was aimed at showing off a variety of his skills to the scouts in attendance.

"I'm really, really happy with what I did and satisfied with it. I felt like I put on a show today," Hundley told CFB 24/7. "I feel like I can just relax a little but there's no break. I've got to keep going and keep getting better."

Several quarterback-needy teams, including the Tennessee Titans and New York Jets, had a healthy contingent of scouts on hand, and there were numerous Seattle Seahawks coaches taking in the outing, too.

Hundley worked a variety of route concepts that he had not shown very much on tape and impressed with a tight spiral and good velocity. He appeared to be on the money with all but a handful of passes. The signal-caller looked to be on the same page as his wideouts and he was particularly proud of the footwork he showed off inside the pocket while avoiding a faux pass rush.

Earlier Tuesday, UCLA head coach Jim Mora said he's not sure if Hundley is ready to be an immediate NFL starter, but Mora remains a huge fan of Hundley, praising his performance and character after the workout."

Brett threw well. He threw 60 passes and ended up completing 57 of the 60 with one drop," Mora said. "Not every throw was perfect but I think what the scouts and coaches appreciated was his enthusiasm.

When you sit down in interviews, you hear over and over what a great kid he is and what high character he (has)." Earlier Tuesday, Mora said he he's not sure if Hundley to be an NFL starter right away. the main attraction among the seven former Bruins competing at the pro day, but he was far from the only one who helped his draft stock with his performance.

Combine (QB01) - Hand: 10-1/2; 10-yd: 1.63; VJ:36; BJ: 10-0; 3C: 6.93; 20S: 3.98;

3 Garrrett Grayson QB x Colorado St. 4.72 6020 213 1st

Strength is in his intangibles (vision, pocket-mobility and accuracy). Tends to eyeball primary receivers. Size, funky windup and lack of zip are concerns.

PFDG - Instincts and heady play should earn him a job as a #2 for a decade...

Brandt (Personal Pro Day) - "...ran the 40-yard dash in 4.72 and 4.78 seconds. He had a 34-inch vertical jump and 10-foot-1 broad jump. He did the 20-yard short shuttle in 4.35 seconds and the three-cone drill in 6.97 seconds. Grayson -- who has 10 1/8-inch hands -- had a good workout. He threw 70-plus passes and only a handful hit the ground...fifth-rated quarterback in NFL Media analyst Mike Mayock's prospect rankings and in the discussion among Baylor's Bryce Petty, Oregon State's Sean Mannion and UCLA's Brett Hundley to be the third quarterback selected in the 2015 NFL Draft behind Florida State's Jameis Winston and Oregon's Marcus Mariota."

Combine - Hand: 10.1;

6 Shane Carden QB x East Carolina 4.94 6010 218 x

Productive out of shot-gun; mainly on quick-read kind of stuff...Has physical limitations and not imposing, physically or athleticallyphysically opposin. Needs to improve mechanics/footwork.

PFDG - Plays with swagger...but it's hard for us to see him consistent enough to secure a starting job.

Brandt (Pro Day) - NA

Combine (QB11) - Hand: 9 3/4; 10-yd: 1.75; VJ: 29.5; BJ: 9-10: 3C: 7.17; 20S: 4.45;

7 Taylor Heinicke QB x Old Dominion est. 4.76 6010 211 x

Your basic system-guy with good technique, intangibles etc., but kind of short with an average arm.

PFDG - Will have no trouble digesting an NFL playbook...but physical limitations will probably keep him from earning a starting role...

Brandt (Pro Day) - NA

Combine - NA-

11 Bryan Bennett QB xx Southeastern Louisiana est 4.81 6020 211 x

Late entry at Senior Bowl...played at a fairly high level at one time, but his production fell off of late...

PFDG - Lost job to Mariota at Oregon before moving to SE La...Very good athlete who's a dangerous runner, but does not throw well on the run...It's unlikely his pocket presence will improve to the point where he can nail down a starting job.

Brandt (Pro Day) - "...went through a positional workout scripted workout run by Jordan Palmer, who spent his 2014 season with the Tennessee Titans. Palmer has been coaching Bennett, who transferred to SE Louisiana from Oregon after losing to Marcus Mariota in a 2012 battle for the Ducks' starting job.

Combine - Hand: 9.5; 10-yd: 1.69; VJ: 37.0 BJ: 10-5: 3C: 7.13; 20S: 4.20;

8 Blake Sims QB x Alabama 4.57 5110 218 x

Another system guy with sound intangibles but a limited future due to lack of height...Not physically or athletically imposing..Small hands...too often will throw "floaters."

PFDG - Potential #2 for a team thaat uses a lot of moving pockets.

Brandt (Pro Day) - NA

Combine - Hand: 9.0; 10-yd: 1.66; VJ: 30.5; BJ: 9-7;...

10 Taylor Kennedy QB x ASU est. 4.84 6020 198 x

Underrated athlete with enough mobilty to improvise and extend plays...Gunslinger mentality/throws catchable ball. ...Lacks elite height/not strong in lower-body...inconsistent deep.

PFDG - One of the nation's best dual-threat QB's (can make plays with his feet and is effective rolling out...A high intangible guy with a knack for making plays...In the pocket, he tends to "play small" and not step into throws...Small arm and overall frame will limit him to being a #2.

Brandt (Pro Day) - NA

Combine - Not listed

9 Sean Mannion QB x Oregon State 5.14 6050 229 x

Tall with adequate build....tough (will bounce right up after absorbing a hit)...throws accurate deep ball with nice touch but doesn't drive the ball consistently (must step into throws)...Only a 46.4% college completion average...Telegraphs his throws/bird dogs receivers. .

PFDG - He'll stick on a roster due to jhis size and accuracy but seems to lack the processing speed necessary to be more than a #2.

Brandt (Pro Day) - "...had a lights-out pro-day workout, throwing the ball like you'd expect from an NFL quarterback. A lot of teams are likely to take a more in-depth look at Mannion in the weeks leading up to the 2015 NFL Draft.

Combine: Arm: 33.5; Hand: 9.0"; 10 yd.: 1.87; VJ: 21.0; BJ: 8-9; 3C: 7.29; 20S: 4.39.

4 Bryce Petty QB x Baylor 4.87 60290 2308 x

Beckett - May be the best deep passer in the draft.

PFDG - Will have to make major adjustments to a pro style offense...

Pro Day (Brandt) - Physical gifts give him some upside, but inconsistency profiles him as a #2...is in the conversation to be the third quarterback selected in the 2015 NFL Draft (behind projected first-rounders Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota). Petty is the third-rated QB on NFL Media analyst Mike Mayock's positional rankings and the fourth-rated QB on NFL Media analyst Bucky Brooks' rankings.

Baylor's pro day kept Petty in that conversation. He did everything that was asked of him. He threw the deep route, the deep comeback and the fade route all really well. Petty showed he can roll out. He also threw a ball 70 yards in the air.

Over a period of about 40 minutes, Petty -- who has 9 7/8-inch hands -- threw 77 passes. He had 69 completions, but five of the incompletions were drops by the receivers and two were deep passes that were overthrown. All the passes came from under center, which was a concern about Petty's transition to the NFL style of offense. He had 28 passes in the 10-yards-or-under range, 17 from 11-20 yards and 32 that were 21-plus yards. Petty had nine three-step drops from center, 32 five-step drops and 19 play-action passes.

Petty's workout was outstanding. What Petty's workout means is that for people who liked him prior to the workout, it was everything that was expected of the Baylor quarterback. Those who are without great expectations or have apprehensions about Petty will need to do further evaluating. Following the pro day, Petty had a private meeting with the Cowboys' Wilson. Petty also has workouts set up with five teams.

Combine: Arm: 31.9; Hand: 10.0"; 10 yd.: 1.68; VJ: 34.0; BJ: 10-1; 3C: 6.91; 20S: 4.13.
