2015 Draft
Strong Safeties
This page will be a work in progress and updated frequently. Come back often and watch it develop.

1 Landon Collins SS x Washington State 4.53 6000 228 x

Has played both free and strong safety...4.53 combine forty-time is elite and identical to the number shown in at least one draft guide...limited in coverage but physically intimidating...well-built with light feet and fluid hips/COD skills...will bite on play action fakes and is faster than he is quick...

Pro Day (Brandt) - NA

Combine - Arm: 31.5; ; BP: NA; VJ: 35.0; BJ: 10-0; 3C: 7.38; 20S: 4.33; 60S: 11.94..

6 Anthony Harris SS x Virginia 4.57 6010 193 x

Production fell off last year (probably because opposing QB's were aware of him)...Combines good ball skills with in-the-box production...breaks down nicely/wraps up securely....but has the lean frame of a CB...

Pro Day (Brandt) - "..Harris, who was identified by CFB 24/7's Mike Hugueinin as one of the prospects facing a pivotal pro day, was unable to work out due to an injury. Harris only did the 40 at the combine, running it in 4.56 seconds...(is a) potential priority free-agent signing for NFL teams following the draft"

Combine - Arm: 31.0; ..

2 Jaquiski Tartt SS x Samford 4.53 6010 221 x

Proved at Senior Bowl that a small-school prospect can make his presence felt...agggressive, intimidating, heavy hittling presence in the secondary...looks the part frame-wise...nice combine athletic numbers (4.53 forty)...but has a high backpedal and loses a step in transition...may take a little while to take the leap from Samford to the pros.

Pro Day (Brandt) - NA.

Combine - Arm: 32.4 ; BP: NA; VJ: 35.5; BJ: 10-4; 3C: NA; 20S: NA; 60S: NA...

3 Ibraheim Campbell SS x Northwestern 4.59 5110 208 x

Smart (prides himself on playing mistake-free/assignment-sound football)...Not the biggest or fastest safety in this class (though his 4.59 combine forty time isn't anything to sneeze about) , but makes up for it by being good at the so-called "intangibles." Quick to diagnose (Note to Stat-Guys: Is there some way to turn "diagnostic skills" into a a number? i.e. how much are reflexes, quick decisions and diagnostic skills worth in tenths of a seconds shaved from a 10, 20 or 40 time)? Showed better-than expected recovery skills in Senior Bowl practices...Has a somewhat choppy backfield and is better moving forward to stop the run than dropping back in coverage.

Pro Day (Brandt) -NA

Combine - Arm: 30.4; ; BP: 23;..

5 Jordan Richards SS x Stanford 4.65 5110 211 x

Described as "team leader and warrior" for s school known for its campus leaders and athletic warriors...Very tough, extremely aggressive and loves the game...but lacks straight ahead speed and range (sounds sort of like the "Shayne Skov" of the Stanford secondary").

Pro Day (Brandt) - "... ran the 40 in 4.59 seconds on both attempts. He had a 34 1/2-inch vertical jump and a 9-foot broad jump. He did the short shuttle in 4.32 seconds. Richards is the kind of prospect who the workouts don't do him justice because he's a hard-nosed tackling safety. Teams are looking for players just like that at safety."

Combine - Arm: 32.5; ; BP: 13; VJ: 32.0; BJ: 9-3; 3C: 6.74; 20S: 4.22; 60S: 11.38....

4 Clayton Geathers SS x Central Florida 4.55 6020 218 x

Brian Dawkins type assassin...former RB...Very tough prospect with good size and pretty good speed......Consiidered big, smart and durable/can QB a defense...Better vs. run than pass...Said to lack top speed (though 4.55 is pretty good) and can be a bit overaggressive biting on run fakes.

Pro Day (Brandt) - "..stood on his numbers from the combine, where he was a top performer in his position group in the bench press and vertical jump. Geathers had a good enough pro day workout to impress the scouts on hand and help himself in the draft."

Combine - Arm: 31.6; ; BP: 22; VJ: 37.0; BJ: 10-0; 3C: 7.21; 20S: 4.27; 60S: 12.57..

7 Anthony Jefferson SS x UCLA 4.72 6010 198 x

(Wow! Another Jefferson)...Has played CB and safety in Mora's system...Described as "hard worker, leader and tempo setter." Demonstrated at Senior Bowl that he anticipates and breaks well in man coverage....But his combine forty time was a tenth and a half slower than his pre-combine estimate, he plays a bit "high" and stiff and reacts a half-step slow....

Pro Day (Brandt) - "...ran the 40 in 4.64 and 4.62 seconds. He had a 20-yard short shuttle time of 4.5 seconds and a three-cone time of 7.01 seconds. Jefferson demonstrated that he's a really smooth athlete in the positional drills."

Combine - Arm: 31.5; ; BP: 15; VJ: 33.5; BJ: 9-8; 3C: 7.18; 20S: 4.15; 60S: NA...

8 James Sample SS x Louisville 4.56 6020 209 x

Looks the part, but two years but a switch of schools and couple of years of UCO competition may have set his development back a little. Prototypical size and speed (plus production to go with it) but he's a waist-bender who's tight in the hips and not a deluxe hitter...not ready yet to be plug & play in the pros.

Pro Day (Brandt) - "...ran a 4.43-second short shuttle and an 11.33-second 60-yard shuttle. He also had 17 strength lifts. Some consider him a safety prospect, but he also has the size and speed that teams like to see at the cornerback position."

Combine - Arm: 32; ; BP: NA; VJ: 32.5; BJ: 10-3; 3C: 7.04; 20S: NA; 60S: NA

9 Kyschoen Jarrett SS x Virginia Tech 4.57 5100 200 x

Short guy...Fast, physical and explosive with the range to play free safety along with the strength and quickness to man up on the line...but looks more like a tweener better suited to play nickel back...labrum surgery in 2013.

Pro Day (Brandt) - "...ran the 40 in 4.53 and 4.48 seconds. He had a short shuttle time of 4.23 seconds and a three-cone time of 7.06 seconds. Jarrett did a good job of catching the ball on defense. He's described as one of those guys who's not real big, but will be hard to run off of your team come camp time."

Combine - Arm: 31.0; ; BP: 21; VJ: 33.0; BJ: 9-1; 3C: 6.95; 20S: 4.40; 60S: 11.61...

10 Sam Carter SS x TCU x 6000 216 x

On the Lindy's (other guys) "worth watching" list...Nice size...physical but perhaps too aggressive...

Pro Day (Brandt) - "...NA

Combine - Not Listed.
