Interior "D" Linemen DataBase
8 Maurice Hurst x Michigan Sr 6020 292 xx

USA Today - One of the most disruptive defenders in all of college football, anchoring one of the nation’s top defensive line units. Explosive force at POA,/uses his quickness and well-rounded skill set to make frequent trips into opposing backfields...Has the versatility to line up in multiple spots along the defensive line, and will be valuable at the next level, regardless of scheme. Nonstop motor, physical playing style and leadership capabilities will only strengthen his draft stock over the coming months, cementing him as one of this year’s top defensive prospects.....

PFW - Athletic for a big guy...Very strong, physical player...Intelligent...short for position...plays with head down and often loses track of ball...slow to shed..more concerned with beating up his opponent than finding fb...can be disruptive ..actually better as a pass rusher because he gets off ball so quickly...Enigma - needs to play with head up and be more disciplined...Strength power, motor and athleticism may get him overdrafted...Play doesn't match hype.

1 Vita Vea x Washington Jr 6040 347 xx

BRS (Gollin) - All Name.

USA Today - A dominant force for the Huskies. Vea’s physical skills are enough to marvel at on their own, but they’re maximized by his nonstop motor and competitiveness. A rare prospect any defensive coordinator can build around. People who are Vita’s size aren’t supposed to be able to move as fast as he does - a rare space-eating nose tackle who can blow through double-teams and disrupt against both the run and pass.

PFW - Huge man with quickness, power, strength, power and competitiveness...Projects as 2-down player at next level...light on his feet...Streong and powerful...can achieve penetration...holds the point /never gives ground...Plays down after down...Good vs. double-teams...can push the pocket on pass rush...can eat up the run game...good chase player...reacts quickly & gets to the ball...Sack production fell in 2017...needs to improve pass rush techniques...lacks speed... a big, strong run defender with limited NFL pass rush potential.

3 Taven Bryan x Florida Jr 6040 291 xxx

USA Today - A quick look at the stat sheet might not scream top-50, but his impact went far beyond the box score. Bryan’s frame and skill set should give him the versatility to play in any scheme at the next level, which will only increase his value. Don’t be surprised if he impresses at the combine, vaulting him into first-round consideration.

PFW - Strong and explosive...makes plays due to his strength and athleticism...Excellent in pursuit...arms may be a bit short...fun to watch on tape...goes all out on every play...consistently gets penetration...quick hands & is quick to shed...Reads & reacts fast & finds the ball.

5 Da'Ron Payne x Alabama Jr 6020 311 xx

USA Today - The Crimson Tide have been churning out high-quality defensive linemen for quite some time, and Payne is the latest to likely warrant first-round consideration. Rare athlete for his size,/ skill set should allow him to make an immediate impact in any scheme...If gaudy stat sheets are your thing, Payne likely won’t move the needle for you much. But if you like physical, disruptive defenders that make everyone around them better, this monster in the middle will be right up your alley. Just 3.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks in 2017, but his impact has gone far beyond the numbers

PFW - Very strong and powerful...Very athletic for size...good speed and short-area burst...Top instincts/quick to find ball...better pass rusher than stats suggest...Excellent run defender who can hold the point, shed quickly and get to the ball...Excellent vs. double-teams...Well-coached...lacks ideal height...Typical 'Bama defensive lineman who had to earn his way into a starting role...has lined up all along the defensive line...Quick off the ball...gets a push/can use his hands...more a pressure-guy than a sack-guy...Long arms.

6 Harrison Phillips x Stanford Sr 6040 307 xx

USA Today - One of the most underrated defensive prospects in the country & one of the most disruptive and productive lineman in this year’s class. It’s extremely rare to see 100 tackles in a season from an interior defender, but Phillips accomplished that feat in 2017, adding 17 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks....Versatile with an ideal NFL frame and the ability to play in any scheme...high-motor player ...Don’t be surprised if he climbs up the draft board, potentially sneaking into the first-round.

PFW - Adequate size...Very strong...Aggressive - goes all out on every play...Quick to react and consistently around the ball...At best vs. run...Size to play on the nose...athletic enough to play 5-technique...Lacks speed & burst...Guys like this are fun to grade...Lacks special traits outside of strength, aggressiveness and top competitive nature...Quick reactions...can play any scheme...Tough as they come...quick off the ball/quick to react.

9 Derrick Nnadi x Florida St Sr 6010 317 xx

USA Today -Three-year starter for a defense loaded with top recruits ....draft stock may be suffering because of FSU’s disappointing 2017 campaign. But film shows a player who can be a difference-maker early at the next level. A stout run defender with a solid frame (who) uses his lack of ideal height as an advantage, routinely getting better leverage and lower pad level than his opposing blocker.

PFW - All out competitor...Penetrates...Short...Will struggle vs. technique-sound pro linemen...Great college player who will probably not equal his success as a pro....Not many will outwork him...Has limitations...short with just adequate arm-length...wins on quickness...coaches will love his effort...Best suited for nose in a 4-3 but lacks the bulk to consistently hold up vs. odd-man fronts.

USA Today -

PFW - Excellent DT size...thick upper and lower body...Strong and explosive...stays on his feet...Reads, reacts and finds the ball well...Very good Senior Bowl Week...Lacks speed/burst...lacks a coounter-move...thick, strong and powerful DL...at his best vs. run...On the pass rush, he's more of a bull rusher than a "move" guy...Should be able to play in any scheme...

10 Rasheem Green x USC Jr 6050 275 xx

USA Today - While some might see a ‘tweener in Green, many NFL teams are likely to see his skill set as a positive. His tall frame still has room for some extra bulk...just scratching the surface of his potential...league should fall in love with his motor and upside....Versatile defender who can line up in multiple spots, regardless of scheme, Green broke out with big numbers this past season, racking up 10 sacks and 12.5 tackles for loss...

PFW - as an Edge Player - Productive vs. both run and pass...Plays bigger than size...can two-gap a guard or tackle...Good key and diagnose skills...constistently takes good angles...bit of a tweener...can get overpowered...not an explosive pass rusher...too small to consistently hold up inside...Wins on effort and reaction...Lacks speed and suddenness of top EDGE guys.

USA Today - One of this year’s most underrated interior defenders....frustrates opposing blockers with his stout frame, impressive power and pleasantly surprising explosiveness...Versatile / can play in various alignments and schemes...tallied 23.5 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks over the past two seasons. A strong performance during Senior Bowl week turned many heads...

PFW - Ranks #4 - Has all the physical tools, including size, strength, great strength and great athleticism for size...Really quick with a burst...Strong powerful and explosive...Very disruptive...can drop into coverage...Instinctive/finds the ball...Tough, physical and competitive... Hand use could be better...Excellent athleticisim for a big guy...some explosiveness as a pass rusher...Won't wait longer than the second round to get snapped up...has only scratched the surface of what he can be...

PFW - Plays with strength/able to hold the POA...Reacts quickly to find the fb...Not much of a pass rusher - lacks quickness and explosiveness to consistently wreak havoc...Good snap reaction and quickness off the ball...Often lines up on thenose...Willing but not a natural pass rusher...lacks moves and counters...Lacks the size 30-teams want.

13 Da'Shawn Hand   Alabama   6040 297

USA Today - It’s rare that a player with Hand’s combination of size and physical tools can fly under the radar, but it’s less uncommon in Tuscaloosa, where the roster is stuffed with elite recruits and first-round talents. May not be a top-32 prospect in this class, but he’s a solid defender who could start right away at the next level...size and skill set will allow him to fit any scheme at the next level, but he’ll be at his best if asked to play the 5-technique in a 3-4 defense. Numbers don't tell the whole story of Hand’s impact...

PFW - Hit or miss player...Highly recruited DL out of HS but never lived fully up to the hype...Excellent size with frame to get bigger...can be a vwery good inside pass rusher with burst to the QB...Has the raw-talent but plays hot and cold..Does have flashes of brilliance but doesn't bring it consistently.

14+ Deadrin Senat   UCF   6000 314

USA Today -Anyone who watched Senat during Shrine Week practices discovered what fans have known for a long time. Rock-solid defender with tons of power and a non-stop motor...Kept his impressive senior year going with a dominant performance against some talented competition... Stout run defender who uses his shorter frame to his advantage to gain leverage on would-be blockers, Senat tallied six sacks and 10.5 tackles in 2017.

PFW - Quick, powerful, strong, instinctive and explosive...Top competitor...plays hard on every down..."Makes some wow plays."...Short with short arms...excellent college player but lacks physical traits needed to play at a winning level in the pros. Will make some plays but gets neutralized too often.

PFW - As EDGE player - Experience inside and outside...Big guy...can drop into coverage...not a full-time player till 2017...lacks speed and explosiveness to play on the EDGE...not a dominant pass rusher...Played inside as a DT/looks and is built more like an inside player...Aggressiveness and intensity runs hot and cold...Adequate instincts and reactions but often a step late.

4 Nathan Shepard   Ft Hays St   6050 315

USA Today - One of this year’s biggest winners during Senior Bowl week...proved he belonged on the same field with some of 2018’s top prospects. Massive, powerful defender with the frame to add even more quality bulk, ...One of this year’s most intriguing prospects.... tallied 12.5 tackles for loss and four sacks in 2017...routinely dominated his competition, tossing would-be blockers like rag-dolls on his way to quarterbacks and ball-carriers. Don’t be surprised if he starts climbing up draft boards.

PFW - Showed dominating ability at lower level...held hisown at the Senior Bowl...Plenty of upside and drive to succeed...Grew up in Canada (minimal exposure to American game)....Very raw...Has all the physical traits and upside to be a very good pro...just needs to learn the game...If he's a quick study, he may contribute as a rookie...Gets off ball quick - wins on quickness...has some explosiveness....Upside is huge...Projects as solid pro by Year 3.

2 Tim Settle   Va Tech   6030 329

USA Today - It’s rare that someone of Settle’s size can be considered one of the most impressive athletes in the nation, but he’s the exception. Massive force at the point of attack/rare explosiveness, balance and agility for his size makes him one of this year’s most intriguing prospects in a deep defensive line class...racked up nearly 20 tackles for loss for the Hokies over the past two seasons. Perfect nose tackle prospect who can eat up space and anchor against the run, but can also collapse the pocket and force opposing quarterbacks to look for greener pastures. Steal on Day 3...

PFW - Huge man with exceptional natural strength...Very quick off the ball and consistently disruptive vs. run...Comes off the ball very low...Can't be moved off the LOS...Surprisingly quick for a big man...Too heavy/lacks stamina/lacks speed/tires late in drives...Needs to get in better shape.
