Guard DataBase
1 Quenton Nelson OL26 OG x Notre Dame Sr 6050 325 1

USA Today - It’s rare that an interior offensive lineman has a legitimate case to make as the best overall prospect in the draft, but Nelson is the exception....A massive mover with a rare combination of athleticism, physicality and awareness, Nelson is a 36-game starter who consistently dominates his competition. He should be a top-10 lock who is worthy of top-five consideration....

Lindy's - Warrants top 10 consideration...Massive, mobile and mean...Thick burly build/generates rare power at POA (more pancakes than I-HOP)...Terrific quickness out of stance...intimidating blocker on the move...May have been protected a little bit by McGlinchy...Got away in college with extending arms/grabbing defenders but may not get away with this in the pros...Lacks elite straight-line speed...Comp: Mike Munchack...

PFW - Might be best OL in the draft...Huge man - Outstanding size with length and excellent strength and power...Good athlete with very good bend...Dominant run blocker...VG pass protector...Team leader...Anchors as well as anyone...Competes hard and aims to punish opponent. Has short-area quickness but won't win any speed awards...Weight isn't a problem but will have to stay closer to 330...Pro Bowl type potential...

Combine: Forty: DNR

BP: 35...VJ: 26.5...BJ: 105...SS: 4.62...3C: 7.65 ......

2 Will Hernandez OL16 OG x UTEP Sr 6020 327 x

USA Today - Dominant force who is at his best plowing the road in the ground game - fantastic combination of intelligence and power, and he puts it to good use...One of the most experienced players in the entire draft class, who started a ridiculous 49 straight games at LG, rarely getting beaten during that four-year stretch. He’s got all the tools to be a plug-and-play starter at the next level...

Lindy's - Best UTEP prospect since 2006...Looks like he was cut from an OG template...HS defensive tackle...Saw some time at center...explosive hands...Quick out of stance...Plug 'n Play (49 consecutive starts)...Second to Wynn as top offensive prospect at Senior Bowl...inconistent hand placement...lacks elite body control...."Can get too ahead of his skiis"...

PFW - Huge man with outstanding natural strength...Wins on strength and power...Plays with bend...Road-grader....Alert for stunts and blitzes...Good job with hands...More of a stop & go blocker with his feet...Not the most explosive guy...Rock solid pass blocker who anchors very well...Best in zone-blocking scheme......Tape is very good but workouts should determine how high he's drafted....

Combine: Forty: 5.15

BP: 37...VJ: 24.0...BJ: 104..SS: 4.70...3C: 7.59 ..

5 Braden Smith OL40 OG x Auburn Sr 6060 315 x

USA Today - Smith was a huge reason for Auburn's success in the ground game.... A physical, athletic blocker with rare height and length for an interior lineman, his ability to dominate at the POA made life much easier for Kerryon Johnson...Consistent, reliable anchor - a well-rounded prospect who has made 40 consecutive starts, showing sustained improvement along the way. He’ll be a plug-and-play starter at the next level, making an immediate impact and instantly improving whichever offensive line unit snags him....

Lindy's - Physically impressive frame....Stout/seldomgives up ground...Improved steadily from year to year...improving leadership skills...r..."I've had the privilege to coach some great players in my career. Braden Smith is at the top of that list." - OL Coach Herb Hand...Could develop more of a killer's instinct...

PFW - Adequate size with frame to add 10 lbs...Tough, super strong and competitive...Explosive with the snap...can pull and get to the second level...Can be a very physical player...Short arms...may have maxed out growth...aims to finish man on every play...athletic in space...very reliable pass blocker...If he can play center, his value would increase...Comp: Cody Whitehair.

SI (Ranks #7) - Redshirted first year & evidentally spent that year entirely in the Hokie weight room...Moved from DE lto Guard...Unique frame for position (very little flab)...Slow heavy feet (looks like he's running thru sand)....too often fails to get to his target on time...

PFW - Very strong...some tightness...not a natural bender...Former DL...Competes hard...Some upside if he can become more flexible physically.

Lindy's - Versatile, durable and gritty...carries dynamite in his hands...nasty and relentless...well-respected by players and caching staff...Hyper-aggressive - sometimes seems more focused on finishing his man than releasing to search for someone else to block...

Lindy's - Ideally suited for power man running scheme...Long-armed with wide frame...Uses length well in pass pro...Rarely called for penalty...understands his responsibilty...seldom gets caught in no man's land...Lack of hand technique stands out...must work on knee-bend/leverage...

Lindy's -Squarish frame (with low COG) is condusive for winning the leverage wars...NFL caliber athlete with quickness, balance and explosive body strength...Helped himself at Senior Bowl...Lacks ideal height/may be better suited for playing center....Medical red flag (concussion)..

PFW - NA:

Combine: Forty: 5.10

BP: NA...VJ: 29.0...BJ: 104...SS: 4.69...3C: 7.95 ......

11+ Timon Parris OL31 OG x Stony Brook xx 6060 312 x

Lindy's - Broke leg in senior year...Small school background...Looks like a tackle and could remain outside with more polish...Quick enough to handle outside speed...Could get away with imprper technique in small college environment but must work on knee-bend, footwork etc...

PFW - as OT - Very good size and the frame to carry 325 lbs...Dominating ability vs. FCS competition...Plays hard/competes...wins with size and strength...Can bend but often plays straight-legged...Carries hands low...Not athletic enough to play on the left side...Very raw...poor technician...Might be better off at RT or inside at OG.

10 Cody O'Connell x     Washington St   6090E 365E

Lindy's - Men his size are hard to completely ignore...

PFW - Huge man with natural strength...Uses size to his advantage...If he can get his hands on his opponent, can win with his size...Limited athlete...no speed or agility to pull...gets tall...Can ovderpower some opponents but when he comes up against any kind of athlete, he can't win....Late pick who projects as a backup..Has to be in a zone scheme..."Team who drafts him better have a tall passer."

PFW - as OT - Played LT...Multi-year team captain...adequate size and strength but arms are a bit short...Tough, durable/gets the most of his natural ability. May have to move inside to OG.

Combine: Forty: 5.15

3 Isiah Wynn OL48 OG-C x Georgia rSr 6030 313 xx

BRS (Gollin) - Write-ups are impressive.

USA Today - The anchor up front for one of the nation’s most feared rushing attacks - a three-year starter with experience at both tackle and guard. One of the smallest left tackles in the nation this year, and will likely have to slide inside at the next level. That’s certainly not a knock on his talent, as Wynn has all the physical tools to make an instant impact in the NFL...Experience at tackle will only make him more valuable.

Lindy's - Ranks #2 - "Plays like a cinder block on skates."...(short, squatty frame, long arms and light feet)...Played LG prior to 2017, and then was switched to LT...Arguably the top Senior Bowl performer of the week....Handled position-switches between LT and LG impressively...Delivers forceful pop on contact...Good balance and body control on contact...good blitz-awareness....Lacks height and arm length to remain at LT...Sometimes content to punch a hole but not finish block.

PFW - Started 42 games...Thick and strong...Good arm-length...pop on contact...strong punch in pass pro...excellent anchor...Lacks height...can get a bit wide at times...Plays a physical game...gets off the ball quickly/exposive on contact...athletic/runs well...excellent vs. inside power...can cut off wide speed...May be asked to play center.
