2014 Draft
Wide Receiver
This page will be a work in progress and updated frequently. Come back often and watch it develop.

1 Sammy Watkins WR 6 Clemson Jr 6006 211 1st

Combine Forty: 4.43. Complete package (size, speed, hands)....According to Huguenin (nfl.com), he's probably the best WR in the draft...has good agility and is expected to turn in a great 40 time....Competitive hand-catcher with elite explosion... Off the field issues (weed). Has all the physical tools (ball-skills, hand-snatcher)...good but improving route runner....can let emotions get the best of him when challenged by physical defenders...

Pro Day - Kept his combine numbers and had an excellent workout..."Top 5 player...He's an excellent route rummer and has hands like a vacuum cleaner." - Brandt...

Combine (WO47) - Hand: 9 5/8; Arm: 32; BP: 16; VJ: 34.0; BJ: 126; 3C: 6.95; 20S: 4.34;

After running the forty for the first time while training for the Combine, his trainers told him: "he didn't need to work on that anymore" - Matt Miller (BP)...

8 Mike Evans WR 63 Texas A&M RSoph 6046 231 1st

Combine Forty: 4.53. Tall drink of water..Reminds G Brandt of (the Detroit-drafted) Mike Williams...Wants to figure out from Combine drills whether his success was due to college mismatches or whether he had the route-running skills that enabled him open. Seems to fit the narrative of a big, tall north-south receiver without a lot of moves or wiggle to deceive defenders, but wins most jump ball battles, is a good downfieldto get blocker and dangerous in the red zone. Lacks an explosive initial start..can lose poise in the midst of the action and draw too many penalties...

Pro Day - (Actually, Manziel's personal pro day) - Ran all sorts of routes including the short ones scouts wanted to see. Manziel's QB coach said "he showed range, he showed speed, he came in and out of breaks. Bobbled one catchable pass but also made Manziel look good by adjusting to questionable throws...Brandt likens his hands to those of Megatron.

Combine (WO18) -Hand: 9 5/8; Arm: 35 1/8; BP: 12; VJ: 37; 3C: 7.08; 20S: 4.26; 60S: 11.58;

9 Marquise Lee WR 64 USC Jr 5116 192 1st

Combine Forty: 4.52.Stirring rags to riches (escape from the ghetto) biography....USA Today refers to his "elite speed" but he's not as fast as Watlkins, Beckham or others...Quick in and out of breaks, Very good ball skills...natural hands...adequate toughness...a bit of a long strider but with deceptive top-end speed..some concentration lapses...concerns over slender build & previous knee injury...

Pro Day - BP: 11; 3C: 6.96; had a great pro day workout. Very quick in and out of breaks and does everything he needs to be a great receiver - Brandt.

Combine (WO33) - Hand: 9 1/2;Arm: 31 1/4; VJ: 38.0; BJ: 127; 20S: 4.01;..

15+ Allen Robinson WR 196+ Penn State Jr 6023 220 1st-2nd

Combine Forty: 4.60....Tall, slender WR who lacks elite speed...Impressive size. Huguenin (nfl.com) says he's been the best receiver in the Big Ten in each of the past two seasons but may the lack necessary top-end speed to be a deep threat....Recent fall off in production may be due to inexperienced, QB....

Pro Day - Forty: 4.48 & 4.50... VJ: 42"; BJ: 10 -11; 3C: 6.54; Looked very good running routes...Performance (especially the improved forty time) returned him to top group of receivers (not quite the level of Watkins and Evans but among the next group) according to Brandt...

Combine (WO41) - Arm: 32; Hand: 9 1/2; VJ: 39.0; BJ: 127; 3C: 7.00; 2-S: 4.00; 60S: 11.36;...

3 Odell Beckham Jr WR 35 LSU Jr 5110 193 1st-2nd

Combine Forty: 4.43...Game-changing feature receiver from (where else?) LSU who might fit the BA mold as our slot guy....According to G Brandt, his speed and versatility leaps out at you (can play receiver and return kicks). But what Gil wants to see at the Combine is whether his quicks and route-running match his expected elite top-end speed (says the Gauntlet Drill tests eye-quickness and how good a hand-catcher he is) - More a stocky lunch-pail receiver with a good work ethic, agility., hands, route-running skills. Could be a bit stronger. Must work on ability to adjust to poorly thrown balls...USA Today's only knock on Beckham is his lack of height for an outside vertical receiver (but that's not how BA would presumably use him)...

Pro Day - Stood on his combine numbers...Sensational catching passes and fielding punts in workouts...

Combine (WO3) -Hand: 9 1/2; Arm: 32; BP: 7; VJ: 38.5; BJ: 122; 3C: 6.69: 20S: 3.94; 60S: 10.93...

15+ Kelvin Benjamin WR 196+ Florida State RSoph 6050 240 1st-2nd

Combine Forty: 4.61...Big physical WR who is hard to bring down but lacks top-end speed.... Big dude. Long strider...outstanding jump ball competitor...very good separation speed...excellent ball skills...uses body well...lights-out blocker...go-to receiver...needs to work on route-running...more of a straight-liner than shake & baker....a bit inconsistent as a route runner and when catching the football...

Pro Day - Has the look of a first rounder...VJ: 33"; 20S: 4.50; Impressive workout - a very good route runner/caught the ball well...Possible late-first-round pick...

Combine (WR05) - Hand: 10 1/4; Arm: 34 7/8; BP: 13; VJ: 32.5; BJ: 119; 3C: 7.33; 20S: 4.39; 60S: 12.08....

15+ Jordan Matthews WR 196+ Vanderbilt Sr 6030 212 1st-2nd

Combine Forty: 4.46. Another big target who holds the SEC all-time record for career receptions...Speed had been a question but his combine forty time should quiet that concern and raise his rating...more of a physical straight line guy than a shake & baker...struggles to get free of press coverage...lacks elite short-area agility...Solid citizen who does volunteer work in his community....Gets off the mark quickly...good quicks out of breaks but lacks top end speed and body-snatches too often...Good second gear...strong RAC skill...can get outmuscled by physical DB's...

Pro Day - Stood on combine numbers; nothing of note about workout.

Combine (WO35) - Hand: 10 3/4; Arm: 33 1/4; BP: 21; VJ: 35.5; BJ: 120; 3C: 6.95; 20S: 4.18; 60S: 11.84;...

Senior Bowl - According to Michael Schottey (BR), he has a chiseled upper body and "any concerns about him being weak are off the table...but, according to Brooks, will have to display better quicks and short-area burst if he's to impress scouts that he can be a #1 receiver at the next level...struggles in separation and lacks the techniquea needed to outmuscle defenders. That said - he impressed Bucky with his "relentless work-ethic"...Over the shoulder 33-yard sideline completion of throw from Fales was described as a "thing of beauty"..

2 Brandin Cooks WR 23 Oregon State Jr 5096 189 2nd

Combine Forty: 4.33. Elite speed...Projects as ideal slot receiver (could be another BA slot target)......Elusive...good body control...tracks and adusts...size is is only potential drawback...creative after the catch...fearless against bigger defenders...Stocky build....Biltenikoff Award winner..poor blocker...nfl.com knocked "his lack of blazing speed" (that must have been before he ran the 4.33)

Pro Day - .20 teams on hand...stood on his combine numbers...good shot at being a first round pick.. .

Combine (WO13) - Hand: 9 5/9; Arm: 30 1/2; BP: 16; VJ: 36.0; BJ: 120; 3C: 6.76; 20S: 3.81; 60S: 10.72...Drew raves at the Combine and now pegs him at the top of the second wave of receiving prospects just below the very elite...

15+ Jarvis Landry WR 186+ LSU Jr 5112 198 2nd

Combine Forty: 4.77...decent size...plays better than he tests and considered a sleeper by some...technically sound...runs good routes...extends and high-points..wins a lot of jump balls...tough over middle...competitive...but he has a pretty lean frame and his combine time was a killer...would have been projected to an effective #3 receiver if he could prove he could run faster (but he didn't)...Still rated high on some boards, but - at 4.77 - I just don't see it...

Pro Day - Forty: 4.60 & 4.63...VJ: 30.5"; BJ: 9-5; 20S: 4.59; 3C: 7.59...Although his forty time improved, the rest of his numbers didn't suggest an elite athlete - his strength figures to be almost entirely based on technique, field-smarts and want-to...

Combine (WO31) - Hand: 10 1/4; Arm: 31 1/4; BP:12; VJ: 28.5; BJ: 110;...

15+ Davante Adams WR 53 Fresno State rSoph 6010 212 2nd

Combine Forty: 4.56. "Nation's leading receiver"...Nice size and physicality but speed is just "OK" and not elite...Pretty good size...decent ball skills...tracks and adjusts well... can make one handed catch...good athlete with elite leaping skills...good hand to eye coordination...wins most jump ball battles...but not real strong and has trouble releasing at the LOS...lacks elite top-end speed...played in a horizontal, quick hitting passing offense...."A poor man's Michael Crabtree.".....

Pro Day - Forty: 4.47 & 4.50 (his main goal was to improve over the 4.56 posted at the combine); Part of Carr's "outstanding workout but there were no comment by Brandt about Adams' workout...

Combine (WO02) - Hand: 9; Arm: 32 5/8; BP: 14; VJ: 39.5; BJ: 123; 3C: 6.82; 20S: 4.30;

..

15+ Paul Richardson WR 196+ Colorado Sr 6010 176 2nd-3rd

Combine Forty: 4.40. USA Today says he's one of the fasted players in the draft but that his slender build raises durability concerns...According to G Brandt, he has good speed and athleticism...Came back from a 2012 knee injury to post impressive college stats, but is very skinny...Among things Gil wants to zero in on is how cleanly he catches the ball and the size of his hands...

Pro Day - Detroit spending a lot of time with him...Says that things went good for him but he could have done better...

Combine (WO40) Hand: 8 7/8; Arm: 32 5/8; VJ: 38.0; BJ: 124; 3C: 7.09;....

15+ Jared Abbrederis WR 143 San Jose St Sr 6000 175 2nd-3rd

Combine Forty: 4.50. Decent speed...Really nice size...played spread QB on Wisc. scout team...Tough; wins most jump ball battles..excellent hands/runs crisp routes but speed was an issue coming into the combine - the 4.50 should be good enough....decent separation and technical know-how but lacks explosiveness out of cuts...Good route runner but inconsistent ball-skills..Struggles to get free of big press corners...

Pro Day - Didn't get measured or weighed...stood on his combine numbers...workout described as "great"...Raider assistant threw to him - Jared ran good routes, displayed good speed and caught the ball well....

Combine (WO01) - Hand: 9 5/8; Arm: 31 3/8; BP: 4; VJ: 30.5; BJ: 117, 3C: 6.80; 20S: 4.08; 60S: 11.39; ..

Senior Bowl - "...performance on the field was helped, not hurt by his physicality" - Schottey (BR).

15+ Brandon Coleman WR 196+ Rutgers RSr 6060 225 3rd

Combine Forty: 4.56..Saw a lot of him at Rutgers. High potential guy who flashed in some games but would disappear in others....big WR with huge catching radius. Has TE-type build...off-season knee-surgery (not thought to be serious)... Speed nothing to write home about, but consider his size...."Zone buster" (Big target) - ESPN...Inconsistent ball-skills...ball security iffy...production may have suffered from inconsistent QB play...injury issues...needs to escape press-coverage more effectively...will fight hard for jump balls....usually (but not always) catches away from body...long arms/big catching radius...deceptive deep speed...Pro Day - Stood on his combine numbers, did position drills and had what Brandt described as an "average workout" Off-season knee surgery a year ago hampered his 2013 production.....

Combine (WO11) - Hand: 9 1/4; Arm: 34.; BP: 21; VJ: 32.5; 3C: 7.33; 60S: 4.51; ..

4 Donte Moncrief WR 38 Ole Miss Sr 6020 221 3rd

Combine Forty: 4.40...Could be drafted higher than initially projected...Prototypical size...very good speed for size...durable...clean background...stepped right into starting role as a freshman...good initisl burst/quick into 2nd gear...big strong hands....can adjust to poorly thrown balls...hand-catcher...good ball skills...deceptive sped...adequate blocker...Huguenin of nfl.com refers to his intriguing size and how Ole Miss coaches raved about his freakish athleticism...If he can run a sub 4.4 at the Combine, watch out!..(Note - He came close)......

Pro Day - Looked impressive in position drills. Relied on Combine numbers

Combine (WO36) - Hand: 9 1/8; Arm: 32 3/8; BP: 13; VJ: 39.5; BJ: 132; 3C: 7.02; 20S: 4.30. According to USA Today, Moncrief's strong Combine scores now project him as a potential #1 receiver who should be drafted in the first three rounds.

15+ Mike Davis WR 196 Texas Sr 6000 197 3rd

Est. Forty: 4.50..."Steady Eddie"-type receiver...decent height (lean frame)...very good intangibles.....Quick off ball..just aversge ball-skills at best...above-average deep speed.needs to become stronger and improve his concentration fielding easy throws...

Pro Day - All 32 teams on-hand...Forty: 4.51 & 4.53; VJ: 32.5"; BJ: 9-9; 20S: 4.42; 3C: 7.06; Did not lift...Had a good workout and caught the ball well but lacks separation burst......

5 Robert Herron WR 43 Wyoming Sr 5090 193 3rd-4th

Combine Forty: 4.48. Sounds like the kind of guys BA continued to bring in during the regular season, so keep an eye on Herron... Pre-combine forty: 4.35 -Fastest est. time of anyone in Top 20...short, thick build...tests well in weight room. arms are not very long...vocal team-guy who leads by example...good combo of quicks and speed - runs good routes but could make sharper cuts...average to above average ball skills...gets up to full-speed quickly and can blow by double-coverage...fearless working the middle out of the slot...

Pro Day - Forty: 4.37, 4.38 & 4.35; stood on combine numbers otherwise...nothing of note in position drills...

Combine (WO25) - Hand: 9 3/4; Arm: 30 1/2; BP: 18; VJ: 35.5; BP: 125; 3C: 6.84; 20S: 4.27;...

Combine (WO42) - Hand: 8 7/8; Arm: 30; VJ: 34.0; BJ: 122;....

10 L'Damien Washington WR 76 Missouri rSr 6040 195 4th-5th

7 Josh Huff WR 60 Oregon Sr 5110 206 5th

Combine Forty: 4.51....Another Slot possibility within the context of what BA may be looking for...USA Today terms Huff "an explosive compact receiver with big speed, but shorter than ideal for an outside vertical threat."...very athletic with natural balance and body control...soft hands...catches away from frame...effective battler for jump balls...adept at settling into zones..special teams experience....hard worker...coachable....needs to get stronger...lacks elite separation speed and quicks...average leaper...described as emotionally "naiive" and in need of mentoring to avoid the pitfalls of big time athletics...

Pro Day - Forty: 4.47 & 4.49; VJ: 32"; BJ: 9-10; 20S: 4.19; 3C: 6.97; BP: 15....

Senior Bowl - Said to have had a strong week - including a diving TD catch and a high-point TD grab vs. Desir...looked good on end-arounds...Not a big receiver but an exceptional athlete with outstanding leaping ability who can beat press-coverage and, if necessary, play on the outside. Reminds one writer of DeSean Jackson and opined that he would represent "tremendous value" midway thru the draft...Lacks elite separation-speed but can track the ball in the air and has enough body control to defeat press-coverage at POA. "Will finish plays" - Trapasso (BP).

Combine (WO27) - Hand: 9 3/8; Arm: 31 1/4; BP: 14; VJ: 35.5; BJ: 116;..

Combine Forty: 4.49..Another slot candidate...Short, compact...Savvy route-runner...not a blazer (but speed is pretty decent)...tough...zone aware...built like a RB...Big hands for size...sound pass-catching techniques (i.e. looking ball into hands/good at plucking and snatching ball from defender) but not big enough on outside vertical routes...

Combine (WO30) - Hand: 10; Arm: 30 5/8; VJ: 33; BJ: 119; 3X: 6.82; 20S: 4.27; 60S: 11.45....

15+ Shaq Evans WR 196+ UCLA rSr 6010 213 7th

Pro Day - Forty: 4.40 & 4.48; 20S: 4.37; 3C: 7.04; Jim Mora describes Evans as a "very good receiver" who, despite a crowded, talented draft class should have a career in the NFL....

15 Dri Archer RB/WR 134 Kent State rSr 5080 173 7th

Combine Forty: 4.26...This year's Tavon Austin? Worked out as a RB at the Combine and posted off the charts numbers...Forty time was a Combine best (or close to it)...Elite burst, accelleration and top-end speed...good agility and balance...soft hands...Versatile...but short, thin and has little functional strength or running power..Size poses durability issues...but when he's good enough to go, can provide a playmaking boost as a receiver or returner...Pro Day - 60S: 11.76...worked out in cold and wintry conditions...returned kicks from a JUGS and punts from a punter...Brandt says that, as a receiver, Archer will hjave to improve his route running and catching-effectiveness (he's a good but not great pass catcher) and expects some team to take a flyer on him anywhere from late in the 2nd round to early in Round 3.....

Combine (RB02) - Arm: 31; Hand: 8 7/8..BP: 20; VJ: 38.0; BJ: 122, 3C: 6.86; 20S: 4.06; ...

Combine (WO12) - Hand: 10; Arm: 31...

15+ Cody Latimer WR 196+ Indiana xx 6020 215 2nd-4th

Fast riser not on very many short-lists of receivers (probably enough to launch him into round 2 or 3 consideration but probably not higher, according to Bleacher Report)...Thick, athletic-looking frame...good agility/speed...adept at route-running/acceleration but sometimes will round off cuts...good RAC skills...Uses body well to box out...Hand catcher...can turn & go qucikly after the catch...Impressive catch-radius...Willing blocker....nice upside....concentration lapses...may lack second gear/top-end speed...must learn to work his way back better on hitches/comeback routes...Field awareness vs. zone lacking...Lacks elite speed and quicks and projects as a possession receiver at next level...A bit raw (has only played 5 seasons of organized ball) but the upside is there...McShay ranks him 34th on his big board and a recent McShay mock had him going to Philly at #22...(Ed Note - This is a very deep group of talented receivers and his inability to do position-work on his pro day leaves a few questions remaining to be answered. For the time being, I'd be inclined to rank him just below my list of Top 15 receivers (Of curse, that could all change with additional positive info during the two weeks between now and Draft Day).

Pro Day - Said to have had a huge pro day...Unofficial: Forty: 4.38 & 4.44; VJ: 39"; BP: 23 reps; ..Did not participate in agility, jumping or positional drills..

Combine: Foot surgery limited his participation...Arms: 32 5/8"; Hands: 9 5/8"
